Practical Self-Love

It's easy to say, "just love yourself".
It's a whole different thing to practice loving yourself.

There are so many facets to self-love, but let’s begin with the basics:

Self-Love:
  1. What is it, really?
  2. How do I connect with it? (especially if I have resistance?)
  3. How do I make it part of my life & my identity?

1. Self-love, what is it, really?

Both "self" and "love" are complex ideas.
But I'm going to give you my definitions:

Self - the body, the five senses, emotions, as well as consciousness (thoughts, awareness).

Love - attention combined with acceptance. Moreover: love is curious, celebratory, receptive, attentive, warm, and present.

Self-Love: curious & warm attention on all that you are (body, sensations, thoughts, feelings).

2. Self-love, how do I connect with it? (especially if I have resistance?)

Connecting with self-love is best done as a small, daily practice, and I'll explain that in section three.

But first...

Let's do some tapping* to clear out any discomfort you may feel about practicing self-love.

Here's the link to download:  Tapping for Self-Love

This audio will help you even if you are feeling in the groove with self-love. It includes a round to clear any resistance, and a round** to affirm and open up to self-love all the more!
It takes less than 10 minutes, why not try it out right now?

*If you are new to tapping, check out my video on "how to tap" here.

**a round is how I refer to tapping through the points while you repeat after me. You will go through all the main points a few times, depending on the length of the round.

3. Self-love, how do I make it part of my life and my identity?
I invite you to make self-love a small, daily habit.

Small habits are great, because they are doable and therefore sustainable. Something big we do once, rarely has the same self-concept shifting impact of something small that we do consistently.

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." - Lao Tzu

Making self-love part of your daily life starts to shift your life and your identity: like a beautiful thread weaving through the fabric of your life. Each day may seem inconsequential, but as the days add up, you can look back and the fabric is forever changed, and distinctly marked by that thread.

Examples of Daily Habits:

Below are some things you can do that evoke self-love & some things that you probably already do that you can augment to become self-love practices.

The things you do already can become loving by doing them with a different perspective, or at a different pace (ie: slower often evokes the feeling of presence more, because it doesn't hit that "rushed" note).

Self-love evoking practices:
  • tapping!
  • Seeing yourself through the eyes of someone who deeply loves you
  • connecting with your inner child
  • meditation
  • movement (exercise) that's about being in your body vs. fixing your body

Activities you can augment to become self-love practices:
  • putting on lotion
  • going on a walk
  • eating
  • putting on makeup
  • brushing your hair
  • stretching
  • making tea/coffee

There it is! You just took a next step in learning more about self-love: what it is, how to connect with it, and how to integrate it into your life and identity. Well done. ; )
